Gmail display images
Published in 03 de enero de 2014
Gmail has recently made some changes in its structure in relation to e-mails that contain images. After this change, Gmail stores the images directly on its server.
If you are an active
Gmail user, you should already be familiar with the “display
images” option upon opening your emails. But, have you ever
wondered why you are asked before showing images in emails?
This way Gmail protects you from opening a “risky” content from
unknown senders that contains viruses and bugs. As all images are now
stored on the external server, it is up to a user to take a risk and
open an mail.
As soon as
the user allows the image to load, Gmail assumes that it is safe to
open this particular content and start to load images automatically.
Ok,
but how can you benefit from this change? Simply, your messages from
now on are safer and secure than before. Every time you receive an
email, your images are checked for viruses and malware, so that you
do not have to click the link that displays images again. The main
purpose of Gmail was to make your email more secure and faster than
ever before.
Although it is still early to measure the impact of this new Gmail feature, we know that the Google will need to download the images at least once in order to store them on servers. Those who prefer to authorize the image to be displayed can choose the: “Ask before displaying external images” option. This new Gmails feature is a great way to ensure your email is protected so that you avoid opening a spam correspondence that may contain harmful bugs and viruses.
