Customizing emails with little or no information available

Who doesn’t like to receive emails that appear to have been created exclusively for you? We all like, it’s an unanimous feeling. After all, it’s good to be called by your name, receive a content that interests you and on the best time. Even better is to have the possibility of creating such custom emails.

However, we don’t always have all necessary information about a contact to send an unique email marketing campaign. Often, we only have the email address, no name or any other personal information that could give an indicative of what he or she likes. But as everything in life has a solution, let’s show a simple tip on emailmanager to personalize this kind of email, despite the lack of clearer personal information.

On the platform, go to Lists section and then go to Segmentation.

Create a segmentation that seeks all contacts in your database that were imported from Gmail, for example. To find it more easily later, name the segmentation and choose a folder to save it. Use it this way:


This filter will search for all contacts containing the domain gmail.com. Thus, you will know that all emails you’re targeting are Gmail users. Tip: you can then create a welcome campaign to users of Google's email and also add a special promotional code for them.

The whole process can be made without leaving emailmanager’s interface. Now, how about going to a more professional level? Here we go!

Export your contact list to an Excel document. There, open "Find/Replace" and put the following:


This way, Excel will eliminate whatever is before the '@' and show a similar list to this one:


With that done, just put the contacts in alphabetical order and give the company’s name, as in the example below:


You'll probably find most of your contacts will be from Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo. However, additionally, you will also see contacts with companies’ domain, which may even signal a name. This information is great for upgrading your database in emailmanager and to personalize your email marketing campaign as follows:


All these steps serve as aid for you to create targeted and personalized campaigns, even without enough information. Best of all, each contact will have a unique treatment, increasing engagement and fostering loyalty.
