How to recover abandoned shopping carts with triggered emails

Published in november, 28 of 2014

We've already talked about autoresponder, transactional emails and RSS feed, just to name a few examples. In this post, we wanna show you an strategy called Trigger Marketing, but from the perspective of an email sent automatically after an abandoned cart.

If you work with ecommerce, you already know what we're talking about. The user browses the catalog of your store, select the products, and complete the purchase process step by step. Till here, everything is ok. The sale is about to be realized. However, at some crucial point (often before making the payment), he abandons the cart and he doesn’t complete the purchase. What can you do at a time like this? You should have prepared an email based on the guidelines of the Trigger Marketing, which will be sent automatically after the user has stopped the buying process, encouraging him to finish it.

In the image above, Steam, a digital games store from Valve, sends an automatic email to notify you when one of your favorite games have special prices with a great discount.

Statistics show that only two out of ten companies send triggered emails to users who have left the buying process. Among those that apply to Trigger Marketing technique, 70% had positive responses.

To enable this email sequence in order to encourage and recover sales, emailmanager has a Transactional API. The option is available to all our customers at no charge. Through this feature, your IT team can use the information generated from a shopping cart abandoned to send emails with specific content and automatically.

I have an account on emailmanager, so how can I do that? Log in and go to Settings. Inside the Extra session click on Transactional emails. After that, change the status to "On". A new option will appear in the top bar. There you can set a transactional server and start the job.

We highly recommend that you check it with a professional with programming knowledge if you don’t have an IT staff on hand or the knowledge required.
